MORAVIAN STAR Product Description:
Product Description
18" Illuminated Moravian Christmas Star
Indoor-Outdoor
White, pre-assembled star is shipped in storage box for many years of enjoyment. Cord and light bulb included.
The original stars displayed 26 points in two colors frequently associated with the Moravian Church: red and white. The star has been used to carry a significant message: The star itself symbolizes Jesus Christ who came into the world to be the light of men. The many points, arranged in almost global fashion, emphasize that Christ's concern is for all mankind. The color white, commonly seen as the color of joy, a reflection of the righteousness and purity of Christ, while the color red typifies the sacrifice of Christ.
The star, normally used in homes and churches for the first Sunday in Advent through the Epiphany festival, has become recognized as a sign of Christian witness and commitment.
Moravian Advent stars, symbolizing peace and hope, have become increasingly popular as Christmas decorations in both Moravian and non-Moravian communities. In 1979, a handcrafted Moravian star was place on display at the Smithsonian Institute.
