The B25 Mitchell is an American twinengined medium bomber that was named after General Billy Mitchell, who was an early air power pioneer, and is the only American military aircraft to be named after a specific person.The B25 was used against German and Japanese targets in every combat theater of World War II. B25s were used in the famous Doolittle Raid in April 1942, in which 16 B25Bs were launched from the USS Hornet and successfully bombed Tokyo and other Japanese cities.The B25J was the final version of the B25 Mitchell. The solidnose B25J variant carried an impressive total of eighteen .50 caliber guns eight in the nose, four in undercockpit packages, two in the waist compartment, two in an upper turret, and a two in the tail.
